Yankee Stadium and the American Baseball Dream

Yankee stadium is an American icon and one of the most famous sporting venues in the world. It is located in The Bronx in New York City, and is home for the New York Yankees Baseball team. Yankee Stadium has a long and colourful history, and was first built in 1923. However, a brand new Yankee Stadium was opened on April 2, 2009, across the road from the old stadium on the former site of Macombs Dam Park. A visit to Yankee stadium is a must for many visitors to New York City, due to the history of the park and all the famous sporting events that have happened there. Much of the design of the new Yankee Stadium has been made to look like the old stadium, although it has also obviously been upgraded and improved in many ways.
The exterior of the new Yankee stadium has been made to look like the original building, and was constructed using 1,100 pieces of Indiana limestone and granite. The seats are also layed out in a similar manner to the original, with grandstand seating that stretches beyond the foul poles and additional bleacher seating beyond the outfield fences. This is very much a baseball stadium, and one of the leading icons of the game of baseball that is famous throughout the world. Baseball is a very important part of North American sport, and along with Basketball and American Football, is the cornerstone to American sporting culture. One of the features of the new stadium pays homage to this rich baseball culture, with a "ball wall" that contains many autographs and is the centrepiece of the Yankee Museum.

As a whole, the new Yankee Stadium has been praised for its use of many of the classic design elements of the original park, however it has not been totally without criticism. Much of the criticism relates to unfriendly and greedy practices, such as extremely highly priced seating in some areas of the park. However, Yankee Stadium is loved by New Yorkers and Americans from all over the country, as an important icon in the culture of baseball and wider American society.
